ABOUT ME

I am honored to be a sixth grade teacher at Stevenson Middle School.  I have taught in the  Wayne-Westland Community Schools for 38 years.  During my first 23 years, I taught elementary Art, Kindergarten through sixth grade.  For the next 15 years, I taught fifth grade.  I possess a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree, a Master of Art Education, and a teaching certificate, certified in kindergarten through sixth grade, all subjects, Art in kindergarten thru high school, and English and Literature in high school.  In addition I have five years of training in whole brain learning.  I use the techniques learned there in teaching here at Stevenson.  If you hear your child talking about right and left brained learning, they have been listening.  Ask them what they think they are and why.

Outside of school I have managed a couple art businesses and began and operated my own landscape design business for ten years.  There is nothing more rewarding than to create using mother nature as your palette, and then stand or sit back and watch your two dimensional design sprout into a three dimensional, living work of art.  You may view an example of this by visiting BY BERELS POND on this website.

On the home front, I have been married for 36 years and have a 18 year old son and a black, miniature schnauzer that keeps all of us entertained on a minute to minute basis.  We live an hour and one half north of Westland and enjoy our country living.  Students will learn about some of the environmental differences between country and city living as we work together here in school.

Outside of teaching, in whatever little free time I have remaining, has been spent in being a school board member in the Huron Valley Schools for 12 years, building and maintaining a water fall and 3 tiered pond in my back yard, reading, and writing a book that I hope to publish when I retire.

Thank you for trusting me to teach your precious child this year. You will find that they will place sixth grade in the category of their most memorable year in school.
