| Acquiring the trait of "Responsibility" is among the most important tasks for fifth grade students to accomplish. To help this become a reality and a normal behavior for students to think about, a reward system is used with my class. In this system, I strive to "catch my students" being good or responsible. When they're "caught," a "Berels Buck" is awarded. This buck is a reproduction of the paper money used in the third grade math book. Twice a week the bucks can be used for an auction of dollar store or donated items. The responsibility of saving the dollars safely, learning the value of money, practicing self control in the height of bidding are just a few of the qualities learned with this system. Students anxiously await the auction with heightened anticipation. Anyone who would care to donate anything new or slightly used to our auction box, it would be very much appreciated. Just send your donation to school with your child. Remember, donations made to non charitable organizations are deductible on tax statements at the end of the year. Thanks! |
